LAHORE, Aug 25: A captain’s knock by Zulqarnain Haider helped Lahore gain a 45-run first innings lead against Peshawar on the second day of their Inter-region (Under-19) Cricket Championship match at the LCCA ground on Monday.
Zulqarnain cracked four boundaries and a six in 96-ball 60 as Lahore managed to score a total of 303 all out in 89.3 overs win reply to Peshawar’s first innings total of 258. At stumps, Peshawar in second innings were seven without loss.
Lahore’s innings prospered by two important partnerships. First opener Abid Ali (46, five fours, one six) with Muhammad Sohail (38, four fours) added 83 runs in their second wicket stand after opener Arshad Munir earned duck. Then, Zulqarnain with Azhar Ali (36, one four) survived the scare when both collected 103-run in seventh wicket partnership to lift the total to 260 from 157.
In another match, propelled by five half-centuries, Sialkot earned a massive 168-run first innings lead against Quetta at the Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot.
Arslan (88 not out) and Nawaz Sardar (66 not out) put on 159 runs in their unbroken fifth wicket stand as Sialkot piled up 344 for four in 90 overs after resuming at 18 for one in the morning while replying to Quetta’s paltry first innings total of 176.
Usman Mushtaq (53), Ehsan Butt (57) and Bilal Azmat (54) were the other who scored fifties.
By close of play, Quetta were nine for two in the second innings —159 runs away to avoid an innings defeat.
