LAHORE, Aug 23: Better Case, who won a race last month will be targeting the feature event to be contested over 1000m during the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Sunday.

He will be vying in a small field of six runners in the Depalpur Plate, a class IV division I & II combined handicap race, the sixth and last in racing order.

After winning a race on July 20 last Better Case ran off the frame on August 14 last showing no sparkle. The race was run on a faster pace and to cope up with that pace was beyond his capacity.

 His track work is good since then and it is hoped he will prove himself worth a horse on the upgrade. His closest rivals should be King Of Bhakkar and Moment To Moment.

Three-year-old bay filly Ponche, who has yet to break her duck on the victory statistics table may aspire for it when she contests in the Badin Plate, class V division I & II combined.

This thoroughbred filly from Polinesso out-of-Affifa, Ponche was inducted on the track last season by the connections with high hopes.

 She is half sister of The Conqueror, who has last season’s record of seven wins and four second places in a total of dozen outings. On the bloodline she should just walk away with the race.

Among her 14 rivals barring last-minute withdrawals On On, Green Hill and Eastern Bird are prominent. This will be the fifth race of the day.

Tora Bora, Hunza and Great Boy are the pick of the 16 runners listed for the fourth race, the Bahawalpur Plate class VII division I. They should fight it out.

A card of six events will be decided in the afternoon. All races will be contested over the sprinting distance of 1000m.

The first race will be held at 2.30pm.
