Hamid stuns top seed


ISLAMABAD, Aug 22: Pakistan’s Hamidul Haq knocked out top seed Susheep Jitjarat of Thailand to move into the final of over-35 category in the Asian Open Vete-

rans tennis championship on Friday.

Hamid, seeded 5th in the over-35 category of the ITF-approved tournament, was in fine nick in the semifinal as he beat Jitjarat 6-4, 6-3 in one hour 45 minutes, according to reports available here from Pattaya, Thailand.

He will now take on Krit Yongkasikij in the final on Saturday where he will face Krit Yongkasikij who toppled Panas Patthamaworakhun 6-0, 6-2 in the other semifinal.

Hamid is also defending his title in over-40 category and will play his semifinal in this class against Nikornkeait Lueprasitsakul also on Saturday.

Top seed Suthep Tantong will meet Charm Hongpanas in the other semifinal of this category.—APP
