KHAIRPUR: Pest damages cotton crop

KHAIRPUR, Aug 22: Cotton crop over thousands of acres has been damaged due to white fly attack in Thari and Kot Diji talukas.

Cotton fields in Thari Mirwah, Sui Gas, Setharja, Kot Diji and Pir Wassan are worst affected by the attack.

The growers complained that the agriculture department had not taken any step to prevent the damage to their crops. They said fake pesticide was being marketed in the district.

GROWERS PROTEST: Growers continued their protest against a shortage of water in different parts Sobhodero taluka on Thursday.

The growers of Imam minor staged a protest demonstration and sit-in at the Imam minor bridge on Thursday against the irrigation officials of the district.

They burnt tyres and bloc-

ked the road. The growers set ablaze an effigy of the SDO

irrigation. They demanded desiltation of the minor to enhance its water capacity and provision of adequate water for their fields.

The growers of Mehrab and Machhar minors continued their protest in Hingorja against a shortage of water on Thursday, the second consecutive day of their protest.

They observed a token hunger strike. The SDO irrigation held talks with them to end their protest but they refused to oblige him and continued their protest.
