LAHORE, Aug 21: The provincial executive committee of the PPP, which met here on Thursday, urged the government to present the LFO before the National Assembly for a debate.

Central and provincial information secretaries Altaf Qureshi and Naveed Chaudhry, respectively, told reporters that the committee had also demanded accountability of the generals, who assumed power after Oct 12, 1999, on corruption charges.

It alleged that Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, who is in Norway, was acting as foreign minister, and demanded that Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali should resign under protest.

The committee also condemned the government for, what it said, media trial of party chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

The body made it clear that the return of the MPs, who had abandoned the party and formed a new group under the alleged patronage of the government, to party fold would not be accepted.

Those who attended the meeting included Qasim Zia, Mian Misbahur Rahman, Aurangzeb Burki, Afzal Sindhu, Mirza Nasir Beg and Mohammed Ayub.
