Three share lead after 2nd round

LAHORE, Aug 20: Zohaib Gillani (Lahore), Haji Afzal (Lahore) and Yasir Butt (Gujranwala) were in first position with five points each on the second day of  the Punjab chess championship at a local hotel here on Wednesday.

In the most thrilling match of the day, Haji Afzal  defeated Aamir Karim to remain in fray at the top.

However, Aamir along with Mahmood Mir, Abdul Majid, Mohammad Iqbal, Naeem Khan, Ijaz Butt and Mahmood Abbas were jointly in second spot with four points, each.

Haji Afzal bt Aamir Karim; Zohaib Gillani bt Waqas Ahmad Butt; Mohammad Babar Butt bt Aftab Qamar; Mahmood Mir bt Mohammad  Abid Butt; Dr. Shafqat and Waqar Ahmad Madni played a drawn game; Abdul Majid bt Hamad Nawaz; Naeem Khan bt Rana Tanvir; Mehar Abbas  bt Mohammad Zahid, Mohammad Iqbal bt Aamir Butt; Feroze Alam bt Abid Sheikh; Mohammad Sadiq bt Irfan Ahmed, Muhammad Shafiq Mirza bt Zulifqar Ahmad Khan; Aamir Rasheed bt Liaqat Ali, Arshad Ahmad Khan bt Gulzaib Nazir.
