Restructuring of CBR by Dec 2004

Published August 21, 2003

ISLAMABAD, Aug 20: President Pervez Musharraf has said restructuring of the CBR will be completed by December next year.

“The main element of restructuring is e-governance and doing away with the discretionary power as much as possible,” he said during a question-answer session at the conference on “Combating corruption in the public and private sector” here on Wednesday.

The National Accountability Bureau chairman Lt-Gen Munir Hafeez in his address said an anti-corruption awareness campaign would be launched through youths with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education.

Investment and Privatization Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh said the conference identified a number of areas to check corruption.

These include political commitment, strong institutional arrangements, strengthening of judiciary by implementing judicial sector reforms and improvement in tax administration as well as empowerment of the community to play the role of monitors, he added.—PPI
