LARKANA, Aug 19: The Larkana District Council in its urgent meeting on Monday unanimously rejected the motion of recall moved by the district Nazim against the Taluka Nazim, Larkana.

Amir Bakhsh Gaad, the chief whip of the district council, said that it was just a no-confidence motion against the Taluka Nazim, and added that the district Nazim had moved the motion after receiving a series of complaints against him (i.e. the Taluka Nazim) seeking shelter under sub-seciton (1) of section 62 of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2001.

The district Nazim in a letter to the convener of the council opined that the continuance of the Taluka Nazim in the office was against public policy.

Taking to the floor, Mr Gaad, Dr Niaz Chandio, chairman, District Public Safety Commission, Larkana, Khair Mohammed Shaikh, and Muhib Pirzado, condemning the move, said that if the district Nazim had received any complaints he should have summoned the Taluka Nazim for clarification instead of abruptly writing to summon an urgent session.

It was quite strange, they said, that no complaints had been brought before a session for discussion without mentioning the names of the complainants.

Terming it a conspiracy, they said that it all was done as the Taluka Nazim had not dished out lucrative contracts to vested interests.

Ashfaque Bhutto, Barkat Shaikh, Nasreen Agani, Yasmeen Shaikh, Yasmeen Abbasi, Abdul Qadir Sangi, Hayat Shaikh and Mohammed Khan Channa rejected the motion.

Appreciating the performance of the Taluka Nazim, they said that being “an honest fellow, he was running the council’s affairs in a decent way”.

They wondered as to why the district Nazim had shut his eyes to the sanitary conditions which were the worst in the city.

They said that this move had only been tabled when Nazeer Shaikh kept hundred per cent transparency in allotting contracts.
