Rs363m zakat distributed

FAISALABAD, Aug 18: The District Zakat and Ushr Committee distributed Rs362.979 million among the deserving people during the last financial year.

In a statement here on Monday, committee chairman Mohammed Ashraf said an amount of Rs208.560 million was provided to 13,844 deserving people under the Permanent Rehabilitation Package.

He said Rs94.451 million were disbursed among 13,870 deserving people as substantive allowance, Rs19.786 million were given to the deserving students as scholarship through 664 educational institutions, Rs7.489 million to religious schools and Rs9.10 million to the Vocational Training Institutes imparting training in different arts and trades to the poor students.

He said an amount of Rs8.951 million had been released to the tehsil headquarters hospitals of Jaranwala, Samundri and Tand-lianwala for providing free medical facilities to the poor patients, while medicines worth Rs8.625 were provided to basic health units and rural health centres.

Besides providing financial assistance of Rs5.96 million to 596 deserving applicants for the marriage of their daughters, Rs5.960 million were also distributed among 192 deserving people at the rate of Rs5,000 per head.
