4 fighters killed in Kashmir

JAMMU, Aug 16: Four freedom fighters were killed on Saturday in a fierce gunbattle with Indian troops in Kashmir, officials said.

A defence ministry spokesman here troops surrounded a suspected rebel hideout in Lah village in the Rajouri district, 177km west of Jammu after a tip-off.

“As the soldiers neared the hideout they came under heavy fire which was retaliated, killing four rebels on the spot,” the spokesman said.

Some of the rebels managed to escape and a search was launched to find them.—AFP
