Adnan, Saima crowned champions

KARACHI, Aug 16: Adnan Maqsood and Saima Shamim were crowned men’s and women’s singles champions of the 17 All-Pakistan Inter-departmental table tennis championship which ended on Friday at Islamia Club.

Adnan overcame a tenacious Muhammad Khalid in six-set marathon 11-7, 11-5, 4-11, 11-8, 9-11, 12-10 while Saima overpowered Sadia in four sets 11-4, 11-6, 11-2 in a one-sided clash.

Talented Ghalia Khursheed and Asad emerged as girl’s and boy’s champions winning their respective finals in straight sets.

On a day when all the finals were decided it was the men’s singles that provided thrills and spills and both Adnan and Khalid

Ghalia kept her dominance through out the game to outlast Hina Mehmood 11-8,14-12,11-9. Hina gave her rival a hard fight specially in the second and third sets but was well and truly beaten.

Asad Omar won the final boys single crown also in three straight sets in a one-sided clash. The scoreline 11-4,11-6,11-2 tells the true story.

Men’s singles: Adnan Mushtaq (Wapda) bt Mohammed Khalid (PWD) 11-7,11-5,9-11,11-8,9-11,12-10.

Women’s singles: Saima Shamim bt Sadia Yaseen 11-4,11-8,8-11,11-5,11-9.

Boy’s singles: Asad Omer bt Ayaz Ahmed 11-4,11-6,11-2.

Girls singles: Ghalia Khursheed bt Hina Mehmood 11-8,14-12,11-9.
