BAJAUR, Aug 15: Five people were killed and eight others seriously injured when a speeding truck rammed into a busy shopping centre in Mamond subdivision here on Friday.

Four shops in the shopping centre collapsed as a result of the crash, killing Sardar Khan, Juma Din, Mamoot Khan, Gul Jan and Ahmad Gul on the spot, while eight others sustained injuries.

Locals shifted the injured to the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Khaar, where the condition of two persons, Said Akbar and Ghulam Hazrat was stated to be critical. Locals also arrested the truck driver and handed him over to the political administration.

The rescue workers, who feared that the death toll might rise, had begun search for more victims.
