Arms cache seized

QUETTA, Aug 15: Balochistan Levies has seized a cache of arms and ammunitions including anti-aircraft guns near Kalat, some 160 km south of the provincial capital.

Briefing reporters here on Friday, the director-general of the Balochistan Levies, Air-Commodore Shaukat Haider Chengazi, said that acting on a tip-off the personnel of the levies force stopped a truck in Kalat area upon which the smugglers opened fire.

He claimed that after heavy exchange of fire the arms traffickers escaped taking advantage of the darkness leaving behind the truck.

The seizure included two anti-aircraft guns, two anti- aircraft bullet chains, 237 live rounds of anti-aircraft gun, two mortar launchers, 25 mortar rockets, two RPG-7, 20 rockets, 24 rocket propellers, two rocket launchers (type-2), 24 hand grenades, and thousands of live rounds of various calibres.

He said that some suspects from the surrounding areas had been taken into custody and investigations were in progress.
