Charkh Bareen can capture main event

By Ali Kabir

KARACHI, Aug 13: The Independence Day Cup to be run over six furlongs will be the main attraction at the Karachi races which will be held on Thursday. The first race will begin at 1 p.m.

Of the ten runners who will vie for top honours The Club Champion, Fire Of Desire, Charkh Bareen and The New Champion on their present form and track work draw the attention most.

The Club Champion and Fire Of Desire are the pick of the lot but will be carrying crushing weights, therefore, may find the going tough and they may face a real challenge from Charkh Bareen who is tracking very well and will relish the journey. Fire of Desire, will, however, be a safe each way bet.

The supporting event of the day, the August Cup looks set for Dont Panic from Pir Pagaro’s stable who won in her last three outings on the trot. She may face challenge from Edging Ahead and Lover’s Lady. The patrons of the turf may fancy Khasul Khas who has five wins in a row to put up some resistance, but now he is running in a different company therefore may find it hard to make his presence felt.

The opener should be duel between Thousand Up and Your Opinion and if there is fair contest it should provide a thrilling contest with Your Opinion having no difficulty in beating Thousand Up who will no doubt come out with improved run.

Knight Gambler, Ustandon Ka Ustad, Mahasagar and Grey Boy draw the attention most in the second race.

Mahasagar is the fastest of the lot and the form horse therefore I would like him to humble Grey Boy and Knight Gambler who despite his win on last Sunday has been placed in the same class by the handicapper of course with a penalty of 16 pounds.

Power Plus, Your Pleasure and Sovero should engage themselves in a triangular fight in the third race. Your Pleasure is the most form horse therefore should have edge over Sovero and Power Plus.

Rajwar in the fourth race is an outstanding entry and on his last Sunday’s run should take a lot of beating. Sweet Grandy and Prince of Arabia should fight out for lower berths.

In the sixth race, Visitor, Snake Eyed and Departure On Time are the form horses. Visitor is set to complete his hat trick of wins. Departure On Time on handicap, though looks a racing certainty will be a safe each way bet, as Visitor is an improving three-year old. Snake Eyed should not run out of place on his last Sunday’s run.

In the concluding event of the day Sardar is cut above class and should win hands down. He has only to beat Micky Mikado II who should be just a push over.
