HYDERABAD, Aug 8: Sindh National Party activists took out a protest rally from the Hotel City Gate against the construction of the greater Thal canal and Kalabagh Dam and to press for the rehabilitation of thousands of rain-affected people of Sindh.
The protesters were led by the chairman of the SNP, Ameer Bhambhro.
They marched through various city roads and later held a sit-in on the press club road.
Addressing the protesters, Mr Ameer severely criticized the construction of the greater Thal canal saying that it was a matter of life and death for 40 million people of Sindh.
He regretted that the rulers had again raised the issue of the Kalabagh Dam, and added that the dam had been rejected by three assemblies, while the Sindh Assembly had rejected the greater Thal canal twice.
He urged the members of the Sindh Assembly to tender their resignations in protest against the on-going construction of the greater Thal canal.
He demanded that the government provide adequate compensation to the rain and flood affected people of Sindh.
The rally adopted several resolutions demanding a package of Rs10 billion for the rehabilitation of rain victims, judicious distribution of relief, and removal of “anti-Sindh” Wapda chairman.
