Downpour in Sheikhupura

Published August 4, 2003

SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 3: Heavy rain on Sunday morning inundated low-lying areas in the city and its outskirts.

The worst affected localities were Jandiala Road, Rahmat Colony, Rahman Pura, Tariq Khalid and Jhang roads.

The residents of these areas held the tehsil municipal administration responsible for the situation.

They alleged that the TMA authorities were neglecting their areas on the pretext of paucity of funds.

They said that Sheikhupura-Sargodha Road has become unmotorable near Machiki, some 6km from the city, due to recent rains.

This portion of road had already been in a shambles for the last several months. The highways authorities too turned a deaf ear to the complaints lodged by commuters in this regard.

MURDERED: Six armed men shot dead the teenaged daughter of their rival in Dera Kundan Singh on Sunday.

According to reports reaching here, Nasir, Javaid and others broke into the house of Rashid and opened fire, killing Robina on the spot.

Farooqabad Saddar police registered a case against the accused who were at large.

In Herdeve village, a resident of Talagang, Saleem Iqbal, was strangled by hisbusiness partners Manzoor and his son Amjad over a land dispute.
