HYDERABAD, Aug 3: Speakers at a seminar held here on Sunday have criticized the government and educated people of Sindh for their failure to protect the educational institutions and cultural organizations from destruction.
They were speaking at a seminar on “The performance of educational, literary and cultural organizations of Sindh,” which was organised by the Sindh Culture and Literature Development Committee at the Mumtaz Mirza Hall, Sindh Museum, on Saturday.
They said that the conscious people of Sindh should rise to save their literary and cultural heritage.
The chief of the Awami Tehrik, Rasool Bux Palejo, said that the educational and cultural problem of Sindh was a big issue and it should not be treated lightly.
He said by temperament the people of Sindh were against fundamentalism and this was the reason that through so-called intellectuals the nationalist thinking was being opposed.
He said the time had come for the people of Sindh to accept their crimes and work for the cause of Sindh in a sincere manner.
Mr Palejo was highly critical of the chairman, Sindhi Adabi Board.
He said that the Sindh Culture and Literature Development Committee would now review the performance of all the educational and cultural organizations of Sindh.
He asked the wrongdoers to mend their ways saying that enough was enough.
He said that a movement would be launched to protect our literary, cultural and educational institutions.
Dr Ghulam Ali Alana said that the time had come to conduct a detailed postmortem of all our educational, literary and cultural organizations.
He sarcastically said that many members of the graduate assembly knew nothing about the Sindhi language and its history, and added that all the institutions of Sindh had been intentionally destroyed.
He urged the conscientious people to unite on one platform to save their institutions.
Others who expressed their views included Imdad Hussaini, Inayat Baloch, Inam Shaikh, Habibullah Siddiqui, and Agha Shahabuddin.
BODY FORMED: The Sindh minister for sports and youth affairs, Eng Naeem Ishtiaq has appointed a committee to oversee the distribution of relief money among the rain-affected people of Mithi.
A press release issued here on Saturday said, the minister had visited the rain-hit town and its suburbs and took serious notice of negligence of the civil administration.
The minister had distributed ration, tents, clothes and edibles worth Rs1 million among the people which were donated by the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) of Muttaheda Qaumi Movement (MQM).
The committee appointed by him, included members of the Sindh Assembly, the Taluka Nazim and the EDO revenue. It will assess the losses of people before distributing more relief goods.
Speaking to people in different areas, he said that his party represented people and helping them in their hour of need.
The minister after his tour of the town also visited various units of Latifabad, Qasimabad and the city and issued directives to the officials for draining out the rainwater, the press release said. He also visited relief camps established by the MQM.
