ISLAMABAD, Aug 2: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Saturday said the government was working day and night to ensure smooth provision of food, medicines and shelter to the flood victims of Balochistan and Sindh, and he himself was monitoring the operation.
He was speaking to Balochistan Governor Abdul Qadir Baloch who called on him here at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
The governor informed the prime minister about the relief operation being carried out in the flood-hit areas of the province.
He ensured the premier that the provincial government was making every effort for protection of the victims’ life and property.
The law and order situation in the province also came under discussion during the meeting.
The prime minister on the occasion said protection of the life and property of the people should be the top-most priority and evacuation of the flood victims to safer areas and provision of basic health, food and shelter facilities to them must be ensured.
The prime minister asked the governor to ensure early repair of the damaged Quetta-Karachi Highway (N-25) so that traffic between the two cities could be resumed. It would also help accelerate the relief operations in the area, he added.
MEETING WITH DIPLOMATS: Speaking to ambassadors to the United States Ashraf Jehangir Qazi and to China Riaz M Khan, the prime minister has urged upon the Pakistani community abroad to work jointly for building a positive image of the country.
Both the ambassadors called on him separately on Saturday here at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
The premier said the Pakistani community abroad should be organized to form a powerful opinion-building community to project Islamabad’s point of view on important issues.
The Pakistanis, he said, should also join hands to apprise the world of the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir and to work for its solution according to the wishes of the Kashmiris under the UN resolution.
He asked the ambassadors to work for the consolidation and mobilization of the Pakistani community residing in their countries of posting.
The prime minister asked them to concentrate on facilitating solutions to the expatriate Pakistanis’ problems.
This would help improve diplomatic and commercial ties between Pakistan and other countries.—APP
