KCCA decides to boycott SCA

Published August 1, 2003

KARACHI, July 31: Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) unanimously decided on Thursday to distance itself from the newly inducted Sindh Cricket Association and boycott all SCA activities as a mark of protest against what it called ‘injustices’ by Pakistan Cricket Board’s failure to adopt the new constitution.

The KCCA executive council, which met with president Munir Hussain in the chair, has also decided to constitute a delegation which will seek meetings with President of Pakistan and PCB’s patron General Pervez Musharraf and Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, the PCB chairman.

KCCA, while passing a resolution, agreed not to accept any action repugnant to the existing PCB’s constitution, nomination of certain individuals as their office bearers, ill-advised to disaffiliate the bona fide affiliated units of PCB, the city and district cricket associations, withdrawing the prerogative of affiliated association to organize international matches against foreign teams.

While announcing its decision to boycott SCA, the KCCA has also opted to turn down SCA’s offer to have Munir Hussain and Sirajul Islam Bukhari on the organizing committee formed for the forthcoming international ties against Bangladesh.

The KCCA council, however, stated that it has no ill will towards anyone and has utmost regard for the individuals nominated in the ‘so-called’ SCA. But the council members vowed not to compromise the interest of the KCCA.

The council applauded the stand adopted by Balochistan’s city and district associations and Aamir Hayat Rokri, the president of Lahore City Cricket Association, to reject outright unwise and unpopular decisions of the PCB’s ad hoc committee.

Some council members deplored the outrageous actions of certain miscreants who have been successful in provoking PCB chief against KCCA and its officials. One of these individuals holds a key position at National Stadium at the behest of PCB hierarchy and is well known in cricketing circles to be a despicable manipulator.

The executive council in the end urged the KCCA’s top brass to prevail upon Lt Gen Tauqir Zia to review his decisions in the larger interest of the game.
