ISLAMABAD, July 30: The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi Bench has stayed the proceedings carried out against the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) for the recovery of Rs 8.6 million in the court of district judge, Islamabad.

A PSB press release said that the court also suspended the operation of the order passed by the district judge whereby the Board’s application to defend the suit instituted against them by M/s Al Farooq Traders, was dismissed.

It was alleged that PSB entered into a contract with M/s Al Farooq Traders, who supplied one million key chains for the ‘Jeet hi Jeet’ lucky draw scheme. After receiving the supply, PSB allegedly made the payment by issuing bounced cheques to the tune of Rs 8.6 million.

Barrister Masroor Shah, counsel for the PSB while arguing before a single bench of the High Court comprising Justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha, highlighted various legal flaws in the order of the district judge.

The counsel sought the stay of proceedings carried out in the district court against PSB as they were not only against the law but also infringed upon the principles of natural justice and constitutional rights of fair trial.

Justice Abdul Shakoor after hearing the arguments, issued notices to the respondent and stayed the proceedings carried out against the PSB in the district court, the press release said.
