KCCA calls emergency meeting
KARACHI, July 30: Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) has called an emergency meeting of its executive council on Thursday at 5.30pm to discuss repercussions arising after the formation of Sindh Cricket Association (SCA).
Prof Sirajul Islam Bukhari, the KCCA honorary secretary, in a press release on Wednesday stated that two focal points will be raised at this short notice meeting — under Article 13 (a) of KCCA constitution — in which all members have been requested to attend.
The main item on the agenda to be deliberated is the meeting between KCCA’s top officials — president Munir Hussain and Bukhari — and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lt Gen Tauqir Zia on Sunday (July 27).
It appears that KCCA is reluctant to accept the newly-nominated provincial body and its office-bearers, endorsed and approved by PCB, since the press release describes SCA as a so-called association.
On the contrary, KCCA plans to work out a strategy to counter the dominance of SCA in the running of its (KCCA) affairs.
SCA is headed by former Test off-spinner Hasib Ahsan and among other top officials is Dr Mohammad Ali Shah, a long time detractor of the KCCA of which he once was a senior vice-president.
Incidentally, Dr Shah holds the same post in the SCA.
The PCB chief had already declared that SCA will be looking after all organizational and related matters for the forthcoming Test and One-day International against Bangladesh at National Stadium.
Interestingly, both Munir and Bukhari have been included in the list of officials in an organizing committee, with Dr Shah as chairman, for the Bangladesh matches in Karachi.
According to a SCA media release, signed by its secretary Aslam Sanjrani, Munir Hussain is the vice-chairman of the committee with Bukhari the organizing secretary.
Major General Salahuddin Satti, director general of Sindh Rangers, is the senior vice-chairman with SCA treasurer Zahid Bashir to act in the same capacity.
