LONDON, July 29: South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis will miss the second Test against England which starts at Lord’s on Thursday, team spokesman Gerald de Kock said on Tuesday.

But he said Kallis would be back in time for the third Test of the five-match series, which starts at Trent Bridge on Aug 14.

Kallis, 27, a world-class player, returned to South Africa, after playing in the Proteas’ triangular series final defeat against England earlier this month, to be with his father Henry, who died of cancer last week.

De Kock said: “Jacques Kallis will not be joining the squad for the second Test.

“We don’t know yet when he will be rejoining us but he will be back before the third Test.”

De Kock added that pace bowling all-rounder Andrew Hall, a member of South Africa’s one-day tour party but not originally included in the Test squad, had been called up by the Proteas.

Hall, 28 on Thursday, has been playing for Worcestershire.

South Africa drew the first Test which concluded at Edgbaston on Monday.
