HYDERABAD, July 29: Heavy rains continued in the interior of Sindh on Tuesday paralyzing life. Two people were killed in rain-related incidents. A man was killed when the roof of his house caved in in Nawabshah and a boy was electrocuted in Sanghar.
Heavy rains continued in Hyderabad and its suburbs on Monday night and Tuesday.
All the main roads in city, Latifabad and Qasimabad Talukas have been turned into cesspools as the civic agencies face difficulties in draining out the rain water. The situation in low-lying areas is worse because there has been no break in the rains with the result that rainwater remained standing in various colonies, posing health hazards.
The buyers are finding it hard to go to the main Sabzi Mandi where unhealthy conditions prevail as the Taluka Municipal Administration has not taken any drastic measures to improve the situation ever since the monsoon rains began on July 6.
Likewise, Hyder Chowk has become a permanent problem for motorists and motorcyclists as knee-deep water keeps standing there. Besides, big potholes have been created around Hyder Chowk exposing the drivers of vehicles to risks. Traffic jams are being witnessed regularly here.
Similarly, the subway of Hyderabad-Latifabad remained closed, leading to the worst traffic jams, particularly during rush hours.
The district Nazim handed over Rs500,000 from the emergency fund to the EDO (health) with the instructions to purchase medicines and vaccines immediately.
MIRPURKHAS: Intermittent torrential rains wreaked havoc as growers and businessmen incurred monetary losses on Tuesday.
Standing crops of cotton, chilli, sugarcane and vegetables worth millions of rupees were destroyed owing to the rains.
Business activities remained suspended causing losses to traders. Shops, markets and bazaars remained closed.
The power supply was cut off.
Meanwhile, rainfall continued on Tuesday in Mirpurkhas district. Thousands of telephone lines remained faulty and power transformers stopped functioning.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Heavy rains in Naushahro Feroze on Monday and Tuesday have destroyed dates, while several huts collapsed in the villages of Jumo Solangi, Peeral Mahar, and Jumo Rajpar.
The sewerage system in Naushahro Feroze collapsed.
NAWABSHAH: One person was killed and several others seriously injured in rain-related incidents on Tuesday.
Nawabshah and its surrounding towns, including Daur, Bandhi, Sakrand, Bucheri, Qazi Ahmed and Doulatpur, received heavy rains here on Tuesday.
A resident of the Munghero Dahri village, Arz Mohammad Dahri, 32, was killed when the roof of his house collapsed and fell on him.
Several motorcyclists were injured in different parts of the city due to slipping.
The electricity to Nawabshah town remained suspended for several hours, and telephone lines were disrupted. Water accumulated on the roads.
The DCO, Abdul Qadir Mangi, and the Taluka Nazim, Ali Akbar Jamali, visited the affected areas of the city.
DADU: All parts of Dadu district received heavy rainfall on Tuesday cutting off the telecommunication system and power supply for many hours.
All link roads in the western belt of the district have been flooded by rainwater.
Rain is continuing in the western belt of the district. The people of some 200 villages of the Kachho area are facing hardships as they have been cut off from the district.
SANGHAR: Rains continued intermittently throughout the district on Tuesday.
A boy, Adnan, son of Abdul Rehman, was electrocuted in the Resham Gali of Shahi Bazaar, Khipro.
In Khipro Taluka, rain has destroyed chilli and cotton crops standing on thousands of acres.
At least 500 people were shifted from Makrani Para, Rashdi Colony, Gharibabad and other low-lying areas of Khipro town to relief camps.
In Jam Nawaz Ali Taluka, hundreds of people have taken refuge on the sides of roads under self-made plastic tents. Several huts collapsed in Shahpur Chakar.
The people of katchi abadis staged protest demonstrations against the power breakdowns, which had not been restored even after 20 hours. Sanghar town also remained without power for several hours.
