QUETTA, July 26: Balochistan Governor Abdul Quadir has directed the Water and Power Development Authority to complete the Mirani Dam project in time and provide maximum jobs to the local people.

During a briefing and inspection of the site in Turbat, he said local people should be given maximum benefit of the project and construction material available in the local market should be purchased.

He said the dam would play a kay role in the agriculture and economic development of the area and it would be completed at a cost of Rs6 billion and irrigate around 33,000 acres on both sides of the Dasht river.

“Thousands of people would get jobs and the standard of living of local people would rise with the completion of the project,” the governor said.

He said work on the large projects in the province would be completed in time.

A Wapda official told the governor that the project launched in July 2002 would be completed in four years. He said that during the last financial year Rs746 million was allocated for the project and Rs800 million had been approved in the current year.

Provincial Minister Asim Kurd and officials of the departments concerned were also present.
