KARACHI: SDA demands discussion on NFC award in cabinet
KARACHI, July 25: Sindh Democratic Alliance (SDA) President and provincial minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh has urged Chief Minister Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan Mahar to hold a detailed discussion on NFC award in the next cabinet meeting.
As the determination of resources allocation was made for five years, the sectoral development, level of employment generation and the overall socio-economic progress of the province depended on the outcome of those deliberations which emerged in the NFC award, he said.
In a letter to the Sindh chief minister, the SDA chief drew his attention towards the deliberations in the National Finance Commission (NFC) award which on the one hand determines resources allocation amongst the federation and provinces while on the other share of each province.
The SDA president pointed out that any error in the handling of deliberations would cause loss to the province. The importance of this issue demanded that it should be discussed at the cabinet level and a committee be formed to constantly remain in touch with the NFC members from the province and to give support to the Sindh finance minister.
Imtiaz Shaikh indicated that once the committee formed, it would need to develop a multi-dimensional strategy to handle the NFC issue at the technical, administrative and political levels.
He said the strategy was needed because the resources allocation had many co-related issues like devolution of subjects to the provinces along with resources, which he said was a political issue.
So as the issue of tax allocation or apportionment while the distribution of tax collection was only an administrative and technical issue. —PPI
