Loi Bhir housing scheme termed anti-environment

By Our Reporter

RAWALPINDI, July 24: Rawalpindi Development Authority’s proposed housing scheme for middle class and low income segments at Loi Bhir is in doldrums as the forest department has termed it an anti-environment project, official sources told Dawn.

Punjab forest secretary has officially notified the matter to the chief minister (CM), seeking a ban on the initiation of the scheme, the sources said.

The secretary has informed the CM that Rawalpindi city is not in a position to be further deprived of the little forest covered area it has, they added.

The CM, they said, had also agreed with the secretary and assured him that the RDA would not be allowed to execute the plan.
