DADU, July 23: Residents of the Khairpur Nathan Shah town took to the streets on Wednesday to protest against the delay in the arrest of police officials allegedly involved in the murder of a villager.

The villager, Toohal Khan Korai, had died in police custody three days back.

All the bazaars, including the Shahi Bazaar, Rai Bazaar and the Jewellers Bazaar, and the main shopping centres of the town also remained closed.

The protesters, including shopkeepers and activists of different political parties, marched through various roads and streets.

They were led by the brother of the deceased, Gul Mohammad Korai, People’s Party Parliamentarians leader Noor Mohammad Mashori and Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz leader Habib Kathio.

Speaking on the occasion, Gul Mohammad alleged that former Khairpur Nathan Shah SHO Abdullah Buriro and two other police officials had tortured his brother to death.

He said the DPO, operation, had suspended the SHO and the two police officials but they were not arrested despite a murder case was registered against them.

Mr Mashori said the protest would continue till the policemen were arrested.
