KARACHI, July 23: Pakistan People’s Party has criticized the government’s decision to write off loans to the tune of over Rs18 billion outstanding against some pro-regime bigwigs.

The PPP termed it ‘political bribe’ to retain support of the big businessmen, Chaudharis, bureaucrats and military officers.

In a statement Syed Hanif, incharge of the Peoples Secretariat, asked that how could the regime allow such people get away with the public money.

On the one had, the regime has invoked NAB laws against the leaders of ousted government for writing off loans, and on the other, it was doing the same.

He demanded of Gen Musharraf to write off house, computer and other loans acquired by bank employees. He also demanded to do away with levying compound interest on loans extended to the poor.
