Don’t Panic fancied as day’s best

By Ian Fyfe

KARACHI, July 22: The Summer Gymkhana Race Meeting postponed on Sunday due to heavy torrential rain, will now be held on Wednesday at the Karachi Race Course from 1.00 p.m.

It was first announced that the same field for Sunday would participate in Wednesday’s events but one more race was added to the programme and many horses that were to race on Sunday pulled out of the programme and many new runners were entered.

However, all the eight events will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs.

Shah Mardan Shah II, Pir Pagaro VII’s dark bay filly Don’t Panic, is still our day’s best.

Participating in the concluding event, Don’t Panic should complete a hat-trick of wins, beating Robalto Carlos Fan and Defence Academy to the winning post.

Bang On Target, is another winner that should emerge from the Pagaro stables in the seventh event. The thoroughbred three-year-old filly should easily topple the form horses Hamza Saheb and Reconditioned, although stable companion My Darling will also be lining up at the starting gate.

In the opener, the dark bay horse Richy Rich with stable jockey Asghar Ali in the saddle, is our fancy to win this race, chased all the way over the five furlongs by Royal Promise and Millennium Era.

If all goes well, Tom Cruise should present his new owner with a welcome victory in the next event, followed home by Law Of Nature and top weight Grey Boy.

The bay filly Royal Beauty is on song to make it two winners in a row for owner Zafar Iqbal Durrani in the third, with Knight Gambler and Even Top battling it out in the home stretch for the second berth.

Beaten by 1 1/2 lengths by Rajwar two weeks ago, the dark bay three- year-old colt Visitor, could make amends and romp to victory in the next race with speedy Mahsagar and Caesar’s Palace close on his heels.

The fifth event of the afternoon should provide plenty of thrills for the racing fans. In this big field of 18 runners, anyone could finish on top although our column fancies Great Grandy to overcome the likes of Deniro and Knight Fighter, with Bull Dancer completing the frame.

Blue’s Night, after several miserable performances seems at last to be on the winning trail. Participating in the sixth race on the racing programme, the grey mare has the speed to edge ahead of Prince and Arabia and Sarafan at the winning post.

All said and done, an interesting afternoon awaits the racing fans.
