Unbeaten Shahzad

QUETTA, July 22: Defending champion, Shahzad Alam won all his matches in the first five rounds and was leading with 5 points, in the All-Balochistan Chess Championship 2003 being played on Tuesday.

National Master, Shahzad, defeated Yousuf Baloch in the 5th round. Yousuf Baloch, Mohammad Nisar, Malik Mohammad Yousuf Awan, Noor Mohammad Hamdam and Mohammad Ayaz are all in second position with four points each after completion of five rounds.

Some upsets were witnessed in the 5th round in which Yousuf Awan, Noor Mohammad, Mohammad Akram, and Ali Madad defeated their opponents while match between Balagh Sher Bugti and Mohammad Nisar ended in a draw.

Junior player Kamran Khilji and Imran Naeem Khilji drew with senior masters’ prof Mateeur Rehman and Hazrat Ali.

Shawaz Khilji and Mohammad Nawaz were given a walkover.
