Three-day anti-polio drive starts

ISLAMABAD, July 22: A three-day special anti-polio campaign started here on Tuesday during which anti-polio drops would be administered to millions of children across the country.

According to the national Extended Programme of Immunization (EPI), over 65,000 teams of health workers have been constituted by the health departments of all the four provinces.

These workers are going house to house for immunization of over 28 million target children upto the age of 5 years.

Similarly, special polio vaccination centres have been established throughout the country where doctors, paramedics, teachers, girl guides, boy scouts, prayer leaders and members of different voluntary organizations have been engaged to perform their duties.

The government has arranged several million doses of oral polio vaccine through the generous donations of its international partners in polio eradication.

World Health Organization has assured its full technical assistance to Pakistan in campaign against Polio whereas Unicef has also provided valuable assistance for social mobilization activities of the campaign.—APP
