Lawyers to hold anti-LFO convention

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, July 22: Lawyers associations decided on Tuesday to hold a convention here on July 26 against the Legal Framework Order and said no amendment to the Constitution would be accepted until the prescribed procedure was adopted for it.

Briefing newsmen after a joint meeting of the Balochistan Bar Council, the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, the Balochistan Bar Association, the Federal Bar Council and the Supreme Court Bar Association, senior lawyer Haddi Shakeel Ahmed said the lawyers were opposing the Musharraf government since its first day.

He said that in the presence of the LFO, neither democracy could function smoothly nor legal activities could be carried out in accordance with the Constitution. He said no law abiding citizen was ready to compromise on the issue. He said the lawyers had opposed the illegal amendments to the Constitution.

He said the lawyers were struggling in the supreme national interest to uphold constitutional rule, parliament’s supremacy, the judiciary’s independence and democracy.

He said the lawyers would not oppose the amendments if they were passed by parliament.
