KARACHI, July 22: The University of Karachi has decided to set up Faculty of Education in the varsity, said the KU spokesman on Tuesday.

He said that a decision to this effect was made at the meeting of the varsity syndicate, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Zafar Saeed Saifi.

In connection with the setting up of the faculty, a committee has been set up which also includes the deans of all the faculties.

The KU already has the faculties of Science, Arts, Pharmacy, Medicine, Commerce and Business Administration, Law and Islamic Studies.

A five-member committee has been formed to expand the faculty of Islamic Studies and to merge departments of Islamic History and Arabic.

Dr Farida has been made a member of Karachi University’s Selection Board.

The syndicate at its meeting also formally gave approval for appointment of chairpersons to various teaching departments of the varsity.

They are: Dr Tahir Masood (Mass Communication), Dr Fauzia Hassan (Pharmacy), Arif Kazmi (Chemistry), Dr Rafiq Alam (Pharmacology), Fateh Mohammad Burfat (Sociology), Prof Shafiq (Economics), Shama Aziz (Social Works), Tanvir Khalid (Political Science), Shamim Ahmed (Geology), Dilshad Zafar (Commerce), Shahana Urooj Kazmi (Microbiology), Nikhat Yasmin Siddiqui (Zoology) and Moonis Ahmar (International Relations).

The spokesman further said that it has been decided to retain 20 chairpersons of the departments.—APP
