KARACHI, July 21: A 23-member Pakistan Junior hockey squad left on Monday for Alcala la Real (Spain) on the first leg of their European tour.
Left in Tariq Aziz is leading the team while half back Muhammad Imran is his deputy.
The departure of the team was delayed for a day beause of some booking problems.
During the 32-day trip, Pakistan Juniors will first play in the four-nation championship in Spain staged there from July 24 to 27. Germany, Holland, Pakistan and host Spain will be taking part in the event.
Later team will play one Test match each against Spain Senior and Junior side.
Team will move on to France and will play three matches against the host. During their stay in Netherlands, Pakistan will appear in the two-day event and also play a couple of games against club side.
Before the eight-nation event being held in Gniezno (Poland) from Aug 18 to 24, Pakistan will play three Test matches against Poland seniors.
Squad: Shakir Muneer, Muhammad Adeel Anwar (Goalkeepers). Ikhlaq Ahmed, Tariq Yameen, Kashif Ali (full backs). Imran Khan, Muhammad Imran (vice captain), M.Khalid Mahmood, Abdul Asim Khan, Sajjad Anwar (half backs). Muhammad Arif, Shabbir Ahmed Khan,Yasir Islam, Tariq Aziz (captain), Akhtar Ali, Khurram Shahzad Butt, M.Adnan Zakir, Muhammad Arshad, Kashif Yaqoob, Asif Bilal (forwards).
Col (Retd) Abdul Rauf Sandhu (manager), Asif Bajwa (coach) and Dr Asad Abbas Jafri (doctor) are team officials.
Muhammad Abu Bakar and Adnan Hamid will join the team in Holland.—APP
