HYDERABAD, July 21: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman inspected the S.M. Bund near Bhanote on Sunday and expressed satisfaction that all out efforts have been made to strengthen the embankments of the River Indus.

Talking to the people, he said the administration was fully alive to the dangers posed by the flood waters and added that the situation was completely under control.

On the occasion, chief engineer, Sukkur Barrage, Syed Noor Mohammad Shah, told the Nazim that the Sindh government had released Rs5 million to strengthen the Bhanote Bund and added that the Bund was being strengthened through stone pitching.

He said that 150 employees of the irrigation department had been deployed on the Bund who were maintaining a vigil on the most sensitive point round the clock.

He said that required material had also been dumped at the Bund to meet any emergency.

The Nazim instructed the chief engineer to complete the exercise of strengthening the Bund as soon as possible.

He also appointed a committee, headed by Hala Taluka Nazim Makhdoom Habibullah with Bhanote union council Nazim Syed Shamsuddin Shah and Syed Jeandal Shah as its members.

The committee will supervise the work on the Bhanote Bund and submit a detailed report to the district government.
