THATTA, July 20: At least 24 villages were inundated and two villagers were reported missing as the rainwater from the mountainous range of Thatta and Dadu districts gushed into the Kohistan area during the last 24 hours.

The rainwater made its way through the Nahee Dhoro, Jerman Dhoro and Jabloo Nain as a result of which Lal Mohammad Brohi, Khair Bux Brohi, and Soofan Brohi villages of the Janwari and Barich tribes were flooded.

The worst-hit areas are said to be Nahi and Materiri Makan, near Bradabad and Jhampir, where the houses of several people were washed away. At least 25 cows and 15 goats were also killed in the floods.

Two villagers, Asif Ali and Abdul Majid Brohi, are said to be missing ever since the area was flooded.

The Mukhtiarkar, Thatta, Mohammad Siddique Zaur, and the Nazim, Union Council Chato Chand, Abdul Wahid, brought in 150 volunteers who have started rescue and rehabilitation work.

The president, Thatta Brohi Association, Amanullah Brohi, and Syed Riaz Shah Shirazi, son of adviser for forest, Syed Aijaz Shah Shirazi, brought medicines and food for the villagers. They also brought some divers from the Keenjhar Lake to help those in trouble.

The police and revenue staff is working in coordination with the non-government organizations to restore the link between roads which had been cut off as Jhampir Road and Thatto Bradabad Road had been badly damaged due to the rains.

The embankments of canals have developed breaches at various points.

MAN DROWNS: A man, Jamil Ahmed, 23, was caught in a whirlpool as a result of which he drowned in the Keenjhar Lake on Sunday. He was a resident of Gulzar-i-Hijri, Karachi.
