Roads still flooded with rain, gutter water

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, July 19: Main roads of Latifabad no 12 are still inundated by rain and gutter water, prompting the Pushcart Union workers to hold a protest demonstration in the area on Saturday.

The side walls of the main drain going through the area have collapsed.

The union workers complained that garbage that was accumulated after desilting of the drain was not disposed of.

Rain water remains standing in some other parts of Latifabad units including units 2, 11 and 10.

Latifabad Taluka Nazim Abdul Jabbar Khan said that the delay in draining out of the water was being caused by the disposal problem.

He said that the army officials again closed three Wasa pumping stations of Latifabad in Mir Khan, Makrani Para and Barkat Bhai Town areas.

He said that he approached the army officials and convinced them that if the disposal centres stopped working, the condition of standing water would further aggravate. Afterwards, he added, the pumping stations started working.

The Nazim also said that the irrigation authorities had lowered water level in Phulelli Canal so that rain water could be disposed of in the waterway.

He said that he was informed by the Wasa managing director that water flow at the canal indicated that its level had been lowered. No official of the irrigation department could be contacted for offering his version.
