BEIJING, July 19: The China Dongfang Electric Corporation has dispatched seven more diesel locomotives of 2,000 horsepower to Pakistan to help modernizing the country’s railway system.

In this connection, a special ceremony was held at China’s port city of Dalian for shipment of the locomotives to Karachi. Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Riaz Mohammad Khan was the chief guest.

The company has already supplied eight locomotives of 3,000 horsepower two months back. Under an agreement, the company is to provide a total of 69 locomotives within a period of two to three years.

The total value of the locomotives will be around 100 million dollars, which are being provided by the Exim Bank of China as a soft-term credit. An official of the company told APP the locomotives carried special features such as lower oil consumption and the best cooling system.

Under the agreement, 15 locomotives have been manufactured in China, while the rest of 54 will be assembled in Pakistan at Risalpur Locomotives Factory. —APP
