LAHORE, July 18: Gangsters drove away with two brand new Corolla 2Ds worth Rs 2.7million on Friday, raising fears that the model-specific carjackers have resumed their operation in the provincial metropolis.
The gang which has been operating in the city would strike after a lapse of some time and would always go after a Toyota Corolla 2D, with their bosses on their back in tribal areas.
In their fresh strikes, its armed members drove away with LRE-7311 from Faisal Town. Driver Muhammad Iqbal told the police that he was on his way to pick his boss Amir Ali when two gunmen held him up.
The other car, LRG-8383, was driven away by another pair of carjackers from Qila Gujjar Singh. Police said their modus operandi was identical to the first gang.
Meanwhile, robbers struck twice in Faisal Town and lifted a car (LXW-1999) owned by Kashif besides looting cash and gold worth Rs30,000 from the house of Tariq Mahmood.
Yet another car owned by Muhammad Anwar was stolen from Johar Town. Two gangsters stormed into the house of Shakeel Ahmad in the same locality and made off with cash, gold jewellery and valuables worth Rs100,000.
A motorcycle (LXH-7610) was lifted from Barkat Market. All these localities except for Qila Gujjar Singh fall in Model Town police division where the crime against property is increasing alarmingly.
Ilyas told police he was on his way home when two gunmen held him up on Scheme Morre, on Multan Road, and snatched his wallet and cell phone.
Razia Begum was deprived of gold ornaments worth Rs40,000 by two masked men in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
Two motorcycles (LRA-9741 and LXW-5047) were driven away from Lower Mall and Gujjarpura.
