SUKKUR, July 16: More than 100 suspects, belonging to Chakrani and other tribes, were detained and over 80 weapons, including some prohibited ones, recovered during the last six days in the ongoing operation against bandits on the Sindh-Balochistan border.
This was said by Col Hafeez Dar, commandant, Shahbaz Rangers, Sukkur, while talking to journalists here on Tuesday.
He further said more than 20 hideouts and five fortresses, equipped with modern telecommunication system, were demolished.
He admitted some of the recovered weapons were licensed and said they would be returned after verification from the issuing authority.
Col Dar said positive results were expected from the anti-bandit operation on the border area of Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan and hoped that the law and order situation in the area would improve after the operation, in which 4,000 personnel of Sindh and Punjab rangers and the Frontier Constabulary were engaged, was completed.
He said there was no question of compromise with criminals engaged in robberies, banditries, kidnappings and targeting national utility installations in the area.
Col Dar said the objective of the operation was to clear the area of outlaws which would help restore normalcy there.
He said the authorities were committed to ensure safety on the Indus Highway.
Replying to a question, he said he could not say when exactly would the operation end but was hopeful that positive results would soon be achieved.

NADRA: The regional director-general of NADRA, Sukkur, has announced a schedule of mobile van for issuance of computerized national identity cards (CNIC) forms to the people of Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze and Nawabshah districts at the union council level.
An official press release issued here on Monday said the mobile van would be provided to the district registration office Khairpur from July 15 to 19, Naushehro Feroze from July 21 to 26 and Nawabshah from July 28 to August 2, 2003, respectively.
