Police reforms will deliver goods: NRB

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, July 15: Chairman of National Reconstruction Bureau Daniyal Aziz has said that the public safety commission that also includes opposition members was the most important body of the district government which would ensure maintenance of law and order situation.

Speaking at a function on the eve of the establishment of public safety commission office here on Tuesday he claimed that the Musharraf government made historic decision by introducing such reforms in police department.

Provincial minister for local bodies Hafiz Hussain Ahmed Sharody and inspector general of police Balochistan, Dr Shoiab Suddle, also spoke on the occasion.

Daniyal Aziz stated that though late presidents Ayub khan and Ziaul Haq had also attempted to improve the local bodies system yet the changes introduced by the Musharraf government aimed to change the basic structure for provision of powers to the people at grass roots level.

He dispelled the impressions that in the reforms the police have been vested with un-challengeable powers that would intervene in the public affairs and added that police in the new system has been restrained within assigned tasks and public safety commission would be the best check on it.

Regarding hindrance created by the bureaucracy to sabotage the system Mr Aziz observed that with the passage of time the bureaucrats would at last adjust themselves in system because the purpose of system was to ensure the participation of the people at the grass roots in the decision making bodies.

Mr Aziz said that complete eradication of corruption from society was impossible and stated that corruption in civilized countries like America, Japan, Europe was also facing this menace, but shape of it would be different in each country.

He stressed that all of us should strive for provision of basic facilities to the people, saying that without providing basic necessities to the people no system could attain its objective when people were not satisfied, therefore aim should be to achieve sustain economic prosperity.
