Capital police arrest 425 in drug, arms cases in June


ISLAMABAD, July 15: The capital police arrested 425 persons in arms and drug cases and seized contraband items during last month, a crime review meeting was told on Monday.

The senior superintendent of police, Shahid Nadeem Baloch, directed the police officers, especially the DSPOs and SHOs to immediately address the problem of all people who come to the police stations.

Effective strategies should also be devised for improving police patrolling as well as curbing crime ratio, the SSP said.

The meeting was informed that the police in the month of June arrested 234 persons in drug trafficking cases and registered 202 cases, besides seizing a huge amount of liquor, hashish, opium and heroin.

Similarly, the police arrested 191 persons, filed 183 cases and seized a large quantity of weapons.

Likewise, the police arrested the groups involved in theft and robbery and recovered stolen goods worth hundreds and thousands of rupees. The meeting was attended by additional SP, Khalid Khan Khattak, all DSPOs and SHOs, in-charge investigation wing and car cell staff.

Speaking on the occasion SSP Baloch said considerable reduction had been recorded in crime rate following police’ rigorous campaign against anti-social elements.

He said the monthly “Best of the Month Police Station” certificates would be awarded to the best performer police station. He also honoured second class certificate to SHO Tarnol Police Station, Muhammad Hussain Lasi due to his excellent performance in the last month whereas third class certificate was given to the Secretariat SHO, Zubair Ahmad Sheikh.—APP
