PESHAWAR, July 15: A team of Survey of Pakistan has begun delineating Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan in the Yaqubi and Anargi Kandao areas, a spokesman for the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed here on Tuesday.

He said that the survey team had started work in the Mohmand tribal region that has seen skirmishes between Pakistani forces and Afghan militia.

Afghanistan alleges that Pakistan forces have intruded into its territory, a charge denied by Pakistan. The allegation sparked anti-Pakistan demonstrations in Afghanistan.

A mob attacked the Pakistan embassy in Kabul last week, damaging vehicles while ransacking its offices.

The spokesman said that the team had reached the area and it would take time before the delineation is completed.

Reports reaching here said the situation on the border remained tense as the two sides exchanged fire on Monday night in Yaqubi Kandao of the Mohmand Agency.

However, an official said that they had yet to receive reports about fresh skirmishes in the area.

A tripartite commission, including military officials from Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States, has begun its deliberations in Kabul to sort out the matter.

The official said that director general military operation of Pakistan army Maj-Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani who had left for Kabul to attend a tripartite meeting would also discuss the border dispute between the two countries.

Besides director general military operation, the US military and Afghan defence ministry officials are attending the talks and would focus on all vital issues including the recent attack on Pakistan embassy in Kabul.
