Ibrahim misled PBF boss

KARACHI, July 14: Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) President Anwer Chaudhry has said the London-based boxer Ibrahim Hussain disappointed them in XII World Boxing Championship, Bangkok.

Choudhry said that Ibrahim gave them wrong information. “The certificates and photographs he showed were quite impressive. Ibrahim told us that he was trained by foreign coaches. But he was defeated in the first round”, he maintained.

He said that as expected all the boxers lost in the first round except Nauman who won bronze medal. He said that even from Nauman such good results were not expected.

Chowdhry said that this was the first time the team had participated in such a big event. “Top pugilists from around the world participated in the championship and how could any body expect laurels from the new boxers”, said PBF chief.

He minced no words in accepting that the team was not well prepared for the championship. He however said that “We are aiming at an Olympic medal next year. He said that we are preparing the boys for the extravaganza.

He said that to acquire required results the boys need some time, proper experience and exposure. “Since a long time we are unable to send the boys to foreign tours because of lack of funds but now with the help of government patronage we will send the teams to every international event, which will help us in the near future”, he said.

While talking about the future planning he said that the boxers were given a week long vacations and after the vacations the pugilists will join the ongoing training camp at National Sports Training and Coaching Centre.

He said that the federation will hopefully send a large number of boxers to the Commonwealth Games to be held next month in Kuala Lumpur and later the boys will be sent to China in September and October.—PPI
