Shahab emerge worthy winners

KARACHI, July 14: Shahab’s Foursome clinched the weekly title of the Swiss Movement bridge championship at Aslam Bridge Hall on Sunday by accumulating 101 Victory Points (VPs).

Comprising Shahab Saeed, Nasir Khan, Cmdr.(Red) Nuri Pasha and Anwer Kizilbash the winners showed a consistent display to emerge winner.

They started their journey to the top with a closely fought match against PSO 19-11, then an easy victory against Greens brought them in the leading position.

Shahab then completely outplayed Sprinters registering 25-5 victory in the fourth round. Raees gave them a tough fight but Shahab managed their unbeaten run, 16-14 IMP.

Pakistan Ladies and ACES, both scored 89 VPs, winning four matches each to share second berth. However Aces have beaten Pakistan Ladies in the fourth round so they finished second, relegating Pakistan Ladies to the third berth.

Ustad Afzal,Irfan and Anwer Kemal pairs represented ACES, while Mrs. Zeenat Azwer-Qudsia Dossa, Mrs.Rehana Saigol and Mrs.Samia Rashid played for Pakistan Ladies. This is the same team which will be representing Pakistan in the BFAME Zonal Championship.

Earlier in the Pairs,twenty four pairs were placed in one house and scoring was based on simple Mitchel Movement. From the North-South direction, A.K.Bhurgari-Mustafa Saif outpointed other competitors and won with the handsome score of 63 percent followed by Mrs.Rehana Saigol-Mrs.Samia Rashid 62% and Naeem-Maqbool scoring 59%.

From the other direction, Ziaullah baig and Hamid Mohiuddin won with the score of 63.78 %. Asghar Abbas-Shaikh Muqeet finished on second position with 60% and Azwer-Zubair occupied third berth with the score of 58.90%.—APP
