GILGIT, July 14: An injured ibex that was kept in quarantine for treatment two weeks ago at the forest department camp near the Pakistan-China border in Khunjeerab is getting recuperated, the forest department sources said.

They said that a snow leopard had injured the ibex on June 24 in the Khunjrab National Park. The following day, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Northern Areas Haji Mir Afzal saw it limping at the Karakoram highway, and brought it into the camp.

Initially, Dr Sherbaz Khan, an MBBS deputed at the Sars Quarantine Center in Deh, treated the injured ibex and purged its leg of maggots (worms). The forest officials said that after its initial treatment they sent their veterinary doctors to treat the ibex.

“The condition of the ibex is now fast improving and it is able to walk without any difficulty,” a forest official said.

He said the ibex would be set free as soon as it was completely recovered.
