Gas pipeline damaged

QUETTA, July 14: A gas pipeline connecting two major wells exploded and caught fire at Sui when unknown armed men opened fire at it on Monday, official sources said.

“The gas supply to the purification plant immediately suspended because of the damage and a blazing fire,” sources told Dawn .

After struggling for several hours fire tenders at the Sui gas fields managed to extinguish the fire.

When the incident took place engineers and experts of the gas fields immediately rushed to the spot and isolated the portion on fire, securing the whole neigbourhood.

The 16-diameter pipeline connects both the major wells No. 37 and 38 and takes the supplies to the purification plant prior to pumping it into the trunk pipeline.

“Supply of natural gas to the entire country was not disrupted,” PPL sources confirmed.

Nor complaints about shortage of gas or low pressure were received from any part of the country. As soon as the fire was extinguished work started to replace the pipeline in order to resume the gas supply to the purification plant.
