HYDERABAD, July 14: Tribute was paid to the late Naseem Kharal, a noted short story writer, for his services in the cause of Sindhi literature on his 25th death anniversary held at the Institute of Sindhology, Sindh University, Jamshoro, on Monday.
The vice chancellor, Sindh University, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, in his presidential remarks said that Nasim Kharal in his short stories had depicted the rural society in a beautiful manner and added that he was a great advocate of the downtrodden people.
He said the contributions of Naseem Kharal to the Sindhi literature can never be forgotten.
He announced the establishment of the “Nasim Kharal Corner” at the gallery of prominent personalities at the Institute of Sindhology.
He expressed hope that the family members and friends of the late writer would cooperate with the Institute of Sindhology by handing over the books and personal material of Mr Kharal to the Institute.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahtab Mahboob, noted short story writer, spoke at length on the life and works of Nasim Kharal.
She said that Naseem Kharal was a simple man and his short stories were a true reflection of the life of rural people.
Noted intellectual and short story writer, Hameed Sindhi said that the late Nasim Kharal was a man of commitment.
He regretted that his books were out of print and unavailable in the market.
He stressed the need for publishing the books of the late author for the benefit of young readers.
He said that it was the duty of writers to highlight the problems of the society, and added that the writer was not a reformer but his job was to identify the problems.
Others who expressed their views included Saleem Khwaja, Abdul Qadir Mangi, Shaukat Hussain Shoro, Abdul Qadir Junejo, Dr Qamar Jahan Mirza, Abdul Rasheed and Faisal Nasim Kharal.
LUMHS: The controller of examinations, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, on Monday announced the schedule of practical/viva voce examinations of the third professional MBBS (new course) of LUMHS candidates.
According to schedule, the practical/viva voce of special pathology will be held from July 23 to July 28 and community medicine from Aug 7 to Aug 13.
The controller further announced that the practical/viva voce of pathology of third professional MBBS (old course) has been fixed for July 25 and 26.
STRIKE CALLED OFF: About half a dozen MBBS final year failure students of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, called off their hunger strike on the sixth day here on Monday on the intervention of Bashir Khan Qureshi, the chairman, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz.
The students, who included Rabia Rajpar, Wafa Imam Unnar, Abdullah Tanwari and others, had observed hunger strike to protest against their failure.
They had claimed that they had been declared successful in their examinations by the examiners but the vice chancellor and the controller of examinations had declared them fail due to being biased towards them.
Mr Bashir visited the hunger strikers camp and appealed to them to call off their hunger strike.
He assured them that justice would be provided to them.
