KARACHI, July 14: Sindh Local Government Minister Mohammed Hussain said that no democracy could work without a stable local government system.
He claimed that the present local government system was more effective than the previous ones, because the present councillors were in direct contact with the people of their constituencies.
He was talking to a 12-member delegation from UC-3, Azam Basti, Jamshed Town, which included Nazim and Naib Nazim, at his office on Monday.
Mr Hussain opined that joint efforts by the elected representatives under the present system, could result in more development works in a short span of time.
He said that the system would be further strengthened and all bottlenecks in its way would be removed.
On the occasion, the UC Nazim and councillors apprised the minister about the problems of their area and demanded construction, repair and covering of the 1,000-foot-long and 20-foot-wide drain of treatment plant.
They also demanded revision of the layout plan for Azam Basti, besides construction of a community centre in the area.—APP
