Mansoor cracks unbeaten century for KCCA Zone-V

RAWALPINDI, July 11: Islamabad, after making a poor start to their match against Rawalpindi in the Inter-district Under-19 Cricket Championship, bounced back somewhat by the close of first day’s play at the KRL Stadium.

After putting on a meagre 124 in 67.3 overs, a total in which Muhammad Umer Farooq topscored with 28, Islamabad snapped up quick early wickets to leave Rawalpindi on 78 for three.

But dangerman Usman Saeed, the Rawalpindi captain was still at the crease, having scored 35 runs with his side looking to earn a first innings lead on Saturday, the final day of the match.

Earlier Islamabad were restricted by paceman Rizwan Akbar who captured three wickets for 22 while Haseeb Amjad, Khalid Mushtaq and Usman Saeed all picked up two wickets each.

At Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium: Jhelum collected 210 off 86 overs after being put in to bat first by AJK. Nadeem Iqbal scored a responsible 47 runs while captain Rashid Mahmood remained not out on 35. Arslan Latif and Afaq Rahim took three wickets each with Javed Iqbal claiming two victims.

AJK responded by scoring 23 for one off the eight overs possible before the close of play. Irfan Talib (4) and Javed Iqbal were together.

At Islamabad’s Shalimar Cricket Ground: Attock, spearheaded by a fine 65 by Nusrat Khan hit up 268 in 87.3 overs on the first day of their game against Chakwal.

Nadeem Sikander was the other key scorer for Attock who were restricted by off spinner Owais Zia who snared five wickets for 74 runs.

Chakwal in reply were 54 for three with Zeeshan and Muhammad Zubair together at the crease.

Our Correspondent adds from Lahore: A magnificent century by Afzal Shehzad helped East Zone Whites to pile up 372 for all in first innings against East Zone Blues on first day of two-day Inter-District Under-19 Cricket Tournament at the Moghalpura Institute Ground on Friday.

Afzal cracked 12 fours and one six to score 102 off 127 balls. Opener Shahid Khan (88, seven fours) and Mohsin Khan (71, nine fours) also played well.

Leg-spinner Muhammad Hamza despite a fine bowling figures of seven for 81 failed to restrict the Whites from scoring a big total.

In other match, North Zone Whites could collect 276 for nine in the allotted 90 overs against its Blues side at the Model Town Ground. Opener Akbar Rafiq hit 85 with nine fours.

For Blues, pacer Muhammad Irfan picked up five for 29.

At the stumps, Blues were 29 for one in eight overs.

West Zone Whites were slumped at a meagre total of 176 against Blues at the LCCA Ground. Only Khalid Bashir(78, six fours, three sixes) and Sakhawat Salamat (43, three fours) could restrict against the rival’s bowling.

By close of play, Blues were 67 for four in 26 overs.

BLUES: 67 for four in 26 overs (Muhammad Sohail 24, Sakhawat Salamat 2-18).

APP adds from Karachi: Opening batsman Mansoor Ahmed carried the bat for 90 overs with an unbeaten hundred as KCCA Zone-V piled 308 for seven wickets against Zone-VI on the opening day of their two-day PCB Inter District Under-19 cricket tournament at Student Ground Liaquatabad on Friday.

Mansoor finished with an unbeaten 111 with 11 boundaries. Muhammad Khalid hit 46.

Paceman Saeed Khan and leg spinner Waqas Haroon shared six wicket between them.
